The Colombo Medical School was opened in 1870 in the General Hospital Colombo, with 3 teachers and 25 students. In 1942 the School was affiliated to the University of Colombo as its Faculty of Medicine. Since its inception, it has grown to be a leader among the seven medical faculties in the country, and the region.
