 Registered Ph.D. Students

Ms.Uthpali Mannapperuma M.Sc. in Pharmacy (Pharmaceutics), B.Sc. in Pharmacy Hons., Lecturer in Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacology, University of Colombo, is registered with the RHDC for a Ph.D. titled “A study of the quality of Mood Stabilizer drugs registered in Sri Lanka and their usage in Colombo district”.

Supervisors of the program are Prof.R.L.Jayakody, Department of Pharmacology, University of Colombo, Prof. Priyadarshani Galappathi, Department of Pharmacology, University of Colombo, Dr. Raveen Hanvella, Department of Psychological Medicine, University of Colombo and Prof. K. Sathirakul, Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University, Thailand. University of Colombo Research Grant has granted funds of 1.5 Million Sri Lankan rupees, for this Ph.D. project.

 Registered M.Phil. Students

  • Dr. Priyanga Ranasinghe MBBS (Colombo), Lecturer, Department of Pharmacology, University of Colombo, is registered for M.Phil. titled “Evaluation of Zinc and Ceylon cinnamon supplementation for prevention and treatment of Diabetes Mellitus”.

Supervisors of the program are Dr. Prasad Katulanda, Department of Clinical Medicine, University of Colombo, Prof. Priyadarshani Galappathi, Department of Pharmacology, University of Colombo, Dr. Godwin Constantine, Department of Clinical Medicine, University of Colombo, and Dr.G.A.Srimal Premakumar, Head/Senior Research Assistant, Industrial Technology Institute, Colombo. University of Colombo Research Grant has granted 2.58 Million Sri Lankan rupees and National Science Foundation has granted 1.42 Million Sri Lankan rupees for the research project. He is hopeful of upgrading it to a Ph.D. 

  • “Experimental determination of biowaiver criteria and bioequivalence criteria for two selected pharmaceuticals manufactured in Sri Lanka.” is to be submitted for a M. Phil.  by Ms. T.M.D.D.Thambavita, B.Sc. in Pharmacy Hons. Lecturer in Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacology, University of Colombo.

 Her supervisors are Prof. R.L. Jayakody, Department of Pharmacology, University of Colombo, Prof. Priyadarshani Galappathi, Department of Pharmacology, University of Colombo, and Dr.K.K.G.M.P.B.Herath, General Manager, Astron Ltd, Rathmalana. University of Colombo Collaborative Research Grant of University of Colombo has granted 3 Million Sri Lankan rupees for the research. She is hopeful of upgrading it to a Ph.D. 

  • Ms. G. P. S. G. Senadheera, B.Sc. in Pharmacy Hons., Probationer lecturer in Pharmacy attached to Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura is registered for a M.Phil. titled “To describe the trends in antimicrobial medicine utilization and antimicrobial resistance and the association between the two in district of Colombo”.

Her supervisors are Prof.B.M.R. Fernandopulle, Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine,  Prof.G.H. Fernando, Department of Pharmacology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Dr. S. Sri Ranganathan, Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, and Dr. G. Patabendige, Consultant Clinical Microbiologist, National Hospital of Sri Lanka. This research was granted 3.3 Million Sri Lankan Rupees from HETC (HRD) grant from USJP. She is hopeful of upgrading it to a Ph.D. 

  • “Cohort Event Monitoring in vaccine Pharmacovigilance: Using Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) vaccine and live Japanese Encephalitis (JE) vaccine as models” is been registered for a M.Phil.by Dr.(Mrs.)K.Sanchayan, MBBS(Jaffna), Lecturer in Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna.

Her Supervisors are Dr. S. Sri Ranganathan, Department of Pharmacology, University of Colombo, Prof.B.M.R. Fernandopulle Department of Pharmacology, University of Colombo, Dr. Ananda Amarasinghe, Consultant Epidemiologist, Epidemiology Unit, Ministry of Health, and Dr. T. S. Navaratnarajah, Head, Department of Pharmacology, University of Jaffna.  Funding is provided by University of Jaffna A.S. Thambiah Endowment and Lee Kong Chain Endowment.

MD Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics

It is the program conducted by the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine (PGIM), by Board of Study in Clinical Pharmacology. The members come from all Departments of Pharmacology in the country. The proposed program will lead to Board certificate as “Specialist in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics”. Currently only candidates who possess MD (Medicine) or MD (Pediatrics) can take this subspecialty.

MD Clinical Oncology

It is a postgraduate program carried out by Postgraduate Institute of Medicine (PGIM) by Board of Studies in Oncology. The Department of Pharmacology delivers a series of lectures in Pharmacology for MD part I in Oncology. The setting of Pharmacology Paper and viva voce are also done for the exam by the Department.

M.Sc.  Medical Toxicology

It is a 2 years distant learning program based on an online platform using the Moodle learning management system conducted by the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine (PGIM) with a contribution of academic activities from Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine. Prof. Priyadarshani Galappathi is a member of board of study and is a coordinator of Pharmaceutical poisoning module. Activities for the course includes online tutory, exercises for modules, end of module assignments and end of course examination and supervision of portfolios.

Postgraduate diploma in Toxicology

It is a one year program carried out by Department   of   Forensic   Medicine   and  Toxicology with the contribution from Department of Pharmacology. Candidates   who hold   a first   degree   in   a   field related   to   life   sciences  including   Medicine from   a recognized    University   or   a   Degree   or professional    qualification    and   by   the Faculty of   Medicine and   have taken   Chemistry   in G.C.E.  (A/L)   as   subject, are eligible to apply for it. Prof. R.L. Jayakody, Prof. Priyadarshani Galappathi, and Dr. S. Sri Ranganathan conduct lectures in pharmacological toxicology for the course and also serve as examiners and supervisors for the dissertations.

Diploma in Venereology

It is an18 months post graduate diploma program carried out by PGIM with the contribution from Department of Pharmacology.

Diploma in Reproductive Health

It is a full-time course of one year duration consists of 40 academic weeks. The core course will consist of 11 Modules. Pharmacology inputs are been given in various modules from the Department of Pharmacology.

Postgraduate diploma in Health Development

It is a one year program carried out by Faculty of Medicine, Colombo. Candidates   who hold   a first Degree in health or health related field or has professional qualification and experience of at least one year in health related field are eligible to apply for it. The Director of this course Dr. Chamari Weeraratne is an academic of the Department of Pharmacology and most other academics of the department have been research supervisors for this programme.
