Teaching History

My regular teaching contribution in the department of Anatomy is for Basic Sciences. The teaching/ learning tools used include lectures, tutorials, Small group activities, PBLs and dissections/practicals for the medical undergraduates. The subject areas include Neuro anatomy, gross anatomy, histology and embryology.

 I was also involved in teaching   Ophthalmology to Medical undergraduates during their Special Senses Module. I also contributed to Applied Sciences Stream module lectures on basic anatomy.

I have also taken part in delivering Anatomy lectures in Allied health sciences courses of BSc Physiothery and BSc  Pharmacy and other para medical courses.

I was an examiner in theory and practicals and Viva at continuous assessments and final basic sciences examination for Medical undergraduates. In addition I have contributed as an examiner for the assessments of Bsc Pharmacy and BSc Physiotherapy and other paramedical courses.

Electives programme and the Community research programme are two other teaching activities I have undertaken during the past few years.

I am also a resource person at the Post graduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo where I contribute as a member in the Board of Study of Ophthalmology. As a member of the Board of Study in Ophthalmology of the Post Graduate institute of Medicine, I contribute my expertise to improve the standards of the specialty of Ophthalmology.

 As a Senior lecturer and examiner I give my services for MD Ophthalmology, Diploma in Molecular Medicine and PG Diploma in  Anatomy.

This year I contributed as a resource person for the development and implementation of Professionalism and ethics strand for the PG Trainees in collaboration with the Merc, PGIM.

In 2007, I was appointed as the convener of the neurology module. In 2009 I took up the responsibility of Chairperson in the Special Senses  Module.

As the chairperson of Special Senses Module, my work involved not only lecturing but also designing and implementing undergraduate curriculum of Ophthalmology. This included lectures, symposia, Skills sessions, Audio-visual lessons, assessments and feedback etc.
