At present the Centre for TB Diagnosis and Education provides the following diagnostic services at the free of charge to all the patients from government hospitals/ clinics and to the private sector, on request.

(1) TB GeneXpert with Rifampicin Resistance (results within 24 to 48 hours)

(2) TB Direct Smear (results within 24 to 48 hours)

(3) TB Solid Culture Lowenstein -Jensen and Middlebrook 7H10 media (results within 4-8 weeks)

We receive samples from the hospitals in the western province of Sri Lanka, which includes, National Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL), National Infectious Diseases Hospital (NIDH), De Soysa Maternity Hospital (DMH), National Eye Hospital (NEH), National Institute for Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplantation (NINDT), Castle Street Hospital for Women (CSHW), Colombo East Base Hospital, University Hospital of KDU (UHKDU), Colombo East Teaching Hospital (CETH), Military Hospital, Police Hospital, District Chest Clinic-Kalutara and several District General Hospitals in Sri Lanka.

The incidence of TB is increasing in Sri Lanka, especially in the Western province and we process approximately 500 to 700 TB samples per month (TB Direct Smear, TB GeneXpert and TB Culture) at our TB Centre. We process pulmonary as well as extra-pulmonary (sterile fluids, tissue biopsies etc.) samples. The TB GeneXpert and TB direct smears results are issued within 24-48 hours and I WhatsApp all the soft copies of the reports to relevant clinicians immediately. The hard copies of these reports are also issued on the same day.
