The course provides participants a general overview of wound care management, including how to overcome obstacles when treating different kinds of wounds. The objective is to provide health professionals who work in wound care with the information, skills, and clinical preparation they need to help people with chronic wounds. By the end of this course the participants would have a better understanding of the pathophysiology behind wound healing as well as an understanding of the various wound etiologies. The program would last over the span of 3 months and will be held both online and on-site with the on-site sessions being mandatory. Both, medical doctors registered under SLMC and nurses registered under either SLMC or SLNC are encouraged to apply.
- Review the pathophysiology behind wound healing
- Understand wound aetiology
- Identify infection, neuropathy, injury and impairments in vascularity
- Perform a wound assessment and identify barriers to wound healing in chronic wounds
- Understand the principles of selecting appropriate wound dressings/treatments appropriate for healing and non-healing wounds
- Identify chronic wounds that require admission / referral for speciality care.

Entry Criteria:
- Registered medical officers under the SLMC.
- Registered nurses under the SLMC-SLNC.
- The University of Colombo will advertise applications for the course through newspapers, website and other electronic media upon which students meeting the eligibility criteria can apply for admission to the course by paying the application fee to the Registrar of the Faculty of Medicine.
- The course committee will review the application forms and selections will be carried out by the committee.
