Curriculum Implementation Unit – CIU
The CIU was established in 2009 to centralize the managerial responsibilities for planning and implementing the integrated curriculum. It is headed by the Chairperson of the Curriculum Implementation Committee. Committee members include the Chairpersons of the five Streams. This operational arrangement ensures the collective responsibility of implementing the curriculum. The main functions of the CIU include the overall management of the implementation of all academic, administrative and logistics activities for the smooth functioning of the integrated MBBS programme.
- Review and update the Curriculum Implementation Schedule (terms, exams and clinical placements)
- Liaise with the academic departments to obtain necessary inputs to implement the curriculum.
- Prepare timetables of teaching modules/key subjects as per the Curriculum Implementation Schedule
- Monitor and review the sequencing of the teaching/learning activities in timetables with chairpersons/convenors/ committees of Streams and Modules.
- Ensure the availability of lecture halls and the availability of necessary equipment, etc. for teaching sessions.
- Enlist facilitators for stream/module small group activities (SGDs, PBLs) and ensure availability and fair allocation
- Liaise with the Director of Examinations and relevant departments/ units to schedule examinations.
- Coordinate and participate in periodic meetings to review stream/module activities and identify implementation issues faced by the stream chairpersons and module coordinators.
- Present implementation bottlenecks/ drawbacks identified at the timetable/ stream meetings to Dean / curriculum development committees and obtain solutions.
- Provide necessary information and data to curriculum development and examinations committee regarding curriculum implementation.
- Ascertain that non- academic inputs required for the smooth functioning of Streams are provided on time.
- Undertake any other academic responsibility assigned by the Dean/Director, CIU
