Technology Transfer Committee
Established in 2016 and operating under the Centre for Research Development and Innovation (CRDI) since 2022, the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, is dedicated to transforming medical discoveries into tangible solutions for healthcare needs. The TTO fosters innovation and entrepreneurship, facilitating the transfer of research from lab to market.
The TTO has organized several workshops and symposiums to promote innovation, including:

- 2017: ‘Creativity, Innovation, and Intellectual Property’ workshop.
- 2018: ‘Researching Towards Innovation and Commercialization’ workshop.
- 2018: Panel discussion on ‘Research into Practice – Beyond Publications’ at the SLMA Conference.
Our efforts have led to numerous patents and improved access to novel medical technologies. Together, we can turn innovative research into practical healthcare solutions.
- Identify and assess inventions with commercial potential stemming from medical research within the faculty
- Facilitate the commercialization of these inventions through industry partnerships and licensing agreements.
- Secure intellectual property (IP) rights to protect the university’s innovations.
