CAH Awareness Day – 2024
The CAH Awareness Day, 2024 was organized by the Clinical Research Center for Complex Hormonal Disorders in collaboration with @MATES4Kids/CLAN and the support of several volunteers from the LRH university unit healthcare team/and medical undergraduates of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo. It was held on the 24 th of June, in keeping with the CAH awareness month, at the UCFM Tower, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo. Over 90 participants attended, majority of whom were young people living with CAH and their parents.
The main focus of this program was to raise awareness among adolescents and youth with CAH and parents with children/adolescents with CAH about the condition and to help them lead normal and healthy lives. The participants were given a platform to share their experiences with each other and it was a novel and inspiring experience for all of us, including the healthcare professionals and medical student volunteers.
Lunching of the Sinhala and Tamil versions of ‘A Book for Young Women Living with Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH):
“A Book for Young Women with Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia” was first developed by Dr. Agustini Utari of University of Diponegoro, Indonesia and her team in Bahasa Indonesian for the CAH Community of Indonesia, which was later translated into English for sharing internationally.
This book has been now translated into Sinhala and Tamil languages adapting to the local context thus, making this important resource accessible for the Sri Lankan CAH community.
An especial appreciation goes to Prof. Sumudu Nimali Seneviratne and the staff of the Clinical Research Center for Complex Hormornal Disorders FOM UOC, Prof. Priyanjali De Zoysa from Department of Psychiatry FOM UOC, CLAN Child Health Organization, Australia and everyone who contributed themselves in making this possible.
