Opening ceremony of the ‘Hydrotherapy and Recovery Room’ of the Center for Sport and Exercise Medicine (CSEM) Faculty of Medicine University of Colombo
Opening ceremony of the ‘Hydrotherapy and Recovery Room’ of the Center for Exercise Medicine(CSEM) Faculty of Medicine University of Colombo was held on the 10th of February 2025 at the UCFM tower Faculty of Medicine.
The event was attended by more than 150 invitees and was graced by the vice chancellor Professor HD Karunarathne , Dean Faculty of Medicine Professor Vajira Dissanayake , Director CSEM Professor Chathuranga Ranasinghe, CEO Commercial bank Mr Sanath Manathunga and officials, multiple stakeholders of sport including director general Institute of Sports Medicine Ministry of Sports DR Ekanayake, director general Sri Lanka Anti-Doping Agency Ministry of Sports Dr Pilapitiya ,chairperson athlete commission National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka Olympian Mr. Niluka Karunarathne and officials, Deans of UOC, former Deans of Faculty of Medicine, sports advisory board UOC, advisory board of CSEM, academics, administrators, director of physical education department and members ,non academics, officials of national sports federations, officials of Sri Lanka Cricket, specialist doctors , physiotherapists, sport scientists, national coaches, national athletes, patients ,industry partners, well-wishers, sponsors and students.
The CSEM provides specialist clinical services to athletes and public, conducts education and research in the discipline as the only such center in the university system in Sri Lanka. The novel Hydrotherapy and Recovery Room is the first of its kind in Sri Lanka for recovery and rehabilitation of athletes and patients which includes ice, hot and contrast water baths backed by scientific evidence. This sub unit was completed by the donation of an automated ice bath by the Commercial Bank PLC stepping into a more sustainable public private partnership with CSEM UOC.
