The issuance of Circulation Standard Commemorative coin to mark the 150th Anniversary of Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo
The Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo or ‘the Colombo Medical School’ was established in 1870 by the then Governor Sir Hercule Robinson. The faculty is the second oldest Medical College in South Asia which served as the single pioneer center in the field of medical education for more than a century in Sri Lanka.
A circulation standard commemorative coin with a face value of Rs. 20 was issued as one of the events organized to mark the 150th Anniversary of the Faculty. This circulation standard commemorative coin can be used for payments in Sri Lanka.
The first coin was officially presented to His Excellency Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the President of Sri Lanka by Hon. Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Governor of CBSL at the Presidential Secretariat with the Presence of Professor Chandrika N Wijeyaratne, Vice-Chancellor, University of Colombo on 21 March 2022 at the Presidential Secretariate.
The coin with the souvenir is available at the Souvenir outlet of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo.
