Biochemistry describes chemical structures, mechanisms, and chemical processes that provide living organisms and their various underlying organizational theories, the collection of principles which we collectively describe as the molecular reasoning of life. The main emphasis of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the department’s teaching and research activities is on the application of fundamental approaches of biochemical knowledge that support human health and diseases. We teach undergraduate medical curriculum, with a teaching commitment in the form of lectures, small group discussions and activities, problem-based learning, interdisciplinary staff seminars and laboratory practical and demonstration sessions. The Department also supports the research stream of the MBBS and BSc. Physiotherapy programs through supervision and examination of research projects. In addition, we offer a two-year MSc programme in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology for both local and foreign students. Currently research carried out in the department is focused on the topics related to cellular and clinical biochemistry, cell biology, drug discovery, pharmacognosy, nutritional biochemistry and microbial biochemistry and metabolism.
