The Geriatric Assessment Laboratory with the Elderly Care Physiotherapy Clinic at UCFM Tower, ensures a seamless transition from assessment to intervention. While the laboratory specializes in detailed functional evaluations and research-driven diagnostics, the Elderly Care Physiotherapy Clinic provides personalized rehabilitation programs to address mobility challenges, pain management, fall prevention, and overall well-being. Together, these units form an integrated ecosystem dedicated to holistic geriatric care, supporting older adults in maintaining independence and improving their quality of life.
The Geriatric Assessment Laboratory, located at the 11th floor of the UCFM Tower, is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to enhancing the health, mobility, and quality of life of older adults. This laboratory was inaugurated on 20th February 2025 and co-funded by the Erasmus project titled “Promoting Healthy Aging through Holistic Approaches and Innovations”. This cutting-edge facility is designed to provide professional health care and support for older adults and to be a remarkable platform for teaching, learning, and research related to geriatric physiotherapy.
Services provided by the Geriatric Assessment Laboratory are:
- Falls prevention programmes
- Comprehensive Functional Assessments: Upper limb and lower limb functional assessment
- Mobility Assessment: Utilizing advanced gait analysis and postural stability assessments to prevent falls and improve movement.
- Balance/ postural stability assessment
- Assessment of independence in activities of daily living
- Body composition analysis
- Rehabilitation & assistive technology: Implementing physiotherapy interventions, adaptive devices, and assistive technologies for senior independence.
- Interdisciplinary research & education: A hub for cutting-edge research in geriatric physiotherapy, fostering innovation in elderly care.
- Safe ADL training
- Advice for home environment modification
- Clinical teaching for physiotherapy undergraduates
