Medical Library – User Education

Information Literacy is the process of,

  • Accessing information efficiency and effectively.
  • Evaluating information critically and competently.
  • Using Information accurately and creatively.

Each and every year, the Medical Library conducts lectures on “Information Literacy and accessing Medical information for the first year Medical undergraduates, under the Behavioral Sciences Stream. Students are given opportunities to present themselves on a subject related case, which their skills in retrieving relevant, authentic and up to date information.

he Medical Library conducts regular workshops for both students and staff members of the Faculty of Medicine under following topics:

    • Searching strategies
    • Introduction to Search Engines
    • Searching, saving and printing, making a note of the citation details
    • Navigating through HINARI
    • How to conduct a Pubmed search
  2. Searching Medical Information – II
    • Searching skills related to other databases
      •  JSTOR
      • WILEY
      • SAGE (Research methods module)
      • Taylor and Francis
    • Using other free databases and internet resources to search medical information.
  3. Effective Reading for academic purposes
    • Parts of a book and their purpose
    • Parts of a journal and their purpose
    • Extracting information from Dictionaries and Encyclopedias
    • Effective reading techniques
  4. Evaluation of print/ non print information sources
  5. Referencing and plagiarism 
  6. Reference Management Software: EndNote

Each and every year, the library conducts orientation programs on effective and correct usage of library and its resources, for the new intakes of both Medical and Physiotherapy undergraduates.

The library conducts annual workshops on “Updating the knowledge of information sources of Health professionals” for junior academic staff members of the Faculty of Medicine, under following topics:

  2. Introduction to databases containing Medical information
