The Asia Pacific Medical Education Conference (APMEC) 2024 co organized by the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo and the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore took place from the 15th to the 21st  of January 2024. The event witnessed the active participation of over 900 onsite and online attendees hailing from 39 countries worldwide. Notably, it proved to be a transformative experience for Sri Lankan health professionals, health profession educators, and students.

The Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo played a pivotal role in facilitating new avenues for local healthcare professionals, health profession educators and students to share their research, network and identify avenues for partnership and collaboration. The theme of the conference was “Artificial intelligence in Health Professions Education: Trends • Issues • Priorities • Strategies”. The conference provided an excellent platform to focus on the rapidly growing contribution of AI to the health care sector, as well as integration of artificial intelligence into health professions education.

Health Professions educators and researchers presented over 100 scientific abstracts, and actively participated in 34 pre- and post-congress workshops, 18 symposia, numerous plenaries, panel discussions and satellite meetings. In addition to the focus on AI, the academic programme highlighted innovative approaches for teaching and learning, key concepts in assessment as well as need for student support and mentoring. The academic programme was accompanied by a vibrant social programme, which included the inaugural reception and conference Gala Dinner.
