Ceremonial Opening of Rural Health Research Centre, Kataragama
Sri Lanka was in the process of eliminating of malaria, and the infrastructure of this facility was upgraded into a research center through a grant under the World Bank for Higher Education for the Twenty-First Century Window-3 (HETC-W3) during the 2015-2018 period. Through this grant, the Rural Health Research Center (RHRC) of the University of Colombo, Faculty of Medicine was opened on 30th of May 2018 at the premises of the previous site of the Malaria Research Station in Kataragama. The Centre was declared open by Professor Ranjan Hettiarachchi, the Rector of the Sri Palee Campus, representing the Vice-Chancellor of the University, and Dr. Nimal Gamagedera, the acting Provincial Director of Health Services of Uva province. Among the guests present at the event were the staff of the University of Colombo, officials of the Health services and many other representatives of public services in the region.
