Donation of ‘Radio-Frequency Heat Therapy (RFHT) machines
The handing over ceremony of 2 Radio-Frequency Heat Therapy (RFHT) machines, each costing over 1.5 million LKR, was made by the Head of Leishmaniasis Program at the Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative (DNDi) in Geneva, Switzerland, Dr. Byron Arana was held on Friday, 28th July 2023 at the Dean’s Office, Faculty of Medicine, Colombo.
These machines will be used for leishmaniasis study program that will be conducted in 2 main hospitals that get the highest numbers of leishmaniasis patients in the country viz. District General Hospital Hambantota and General Hospital Anuradhapura.
The machines will be used to treat leishmaniasis patients at the Dermatology Clinics of these hospitals.
The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, Vidyajothi Prof. Vajira Dissanayake, Prof. Nadira Karunaweera, Prof. Nilakshi Samaranayake, Prof. Nilika Malawige, Dr. Hermali Silva, Dr. Rajika Dewasurendra, Dr. Nuwani Manamperi, Dr. Indira Kahawita, Dr Kanchana Mallawaarachchi, Prof. M. Mahees, and Mr. Kasun Madusanka together with Dr. Byron Arana and Ms. Marina Boni from DNDi, Switzerland were present at the event.
