Commencement Lecture for Students of the MBBS Programme Batch of A/L 2022

The Commencement Lecture is the first Academic lecture of the MBBS Programme, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo. As the official commencement of the programme, it is traditionally conducted in a ceremonial manner, and organized by the Faculty of Medicine Teachers Association. The Commencement Lecture for the AL 2022 Batch of students took place on 19th February+ 2024 at the Main Auditorium of the UCFM Tower, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo.

Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama, Consultant Physician at the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) graced the occasion as the Commencement Lecturer. A distinguished alumnus of the Faculty of Medicine, Colombo, he is also the current President of the Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) and the Chairman of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA). Drawing from his wealth of experience as a clinician and leader in the medical community, Dr. Wijewickrama offered invaluable insights into the multifaceted role of medical professionals and the evolving landscape of healthcare delivery.

The event was also graced by Senior Professor HD Karunaratne, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo and Vidya Jyothi Prof Vajira HW Dissanayake and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, emphasizing the academic significance of the occasion. The distinguished assembly included Prof Indika Karunathilake, the President of the Faculty of Medicine Teachers Association, and other senior professors, professors, and academic staff of the Faculty of Medicine. Their presence served as a testament to the collective commitment towards nurturing the next generation of medical professionals.

The Commencement Lecture not only marked the beginning of a new academic journey for the AL 2022 Batch of students, but also served as a platform for collective reflection and inspiration.
